Teaching the love of reading for your children!

If there is one lasting memory of my school, it is the school library.

While many of my classmates were reading because it was compulsory, I was reading because it was fun.

I think one main reason I loved reading was that my Mom was a voracious reader. I would see her sitting with a book in the little free time that she had. Reading was and is still a massive part of my life because it was something natural at home.

My love of reading gave me a lot of happiness but also has given me many other things too:

- Love for Human Stories – In childhood, many of the stories we read are based on human values of courage, bravery, taking risks, adventure, freedom, and unconsciously these values are what one imbibes and becomes important as one grows older.

- Communicating ideas – The more you read, the more your brain seeks connections and starts making associations.

- Spelling and Vocabulary – When a child sees the words in a text and sees it repeatedly, the brain captures it.

- Love for learning – Learning is a natural process through reading. While one may not become an expert just through reading, it is a good start.

Just as charity begins at home, I believe the love of reading can also start at home.
